Swarajya
A unique blend of history and gameplay, designed to immerse players in the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj while making learning engaging and memorable.
Year :
2023 (Applied for IPR Patenting)
Industry :
Toy Design
Project Type :
Board Game Design
Project Duration :
2 weeks (group project)

Problem :
History education is often perceived as passive memorization, making it difficult for students to remain engaged with cultural and historical content. The challenge was to create an educational experience that could make learning about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the forts of the Maratha Empire interactive, memorable, and enjoyable.

Solution :
Swarajya was developed as a strategy-based board game that combines quizzes, puzzles, resource management, and competitive interactions. The gameplay integrates cognitive biases such as the IKEA Effect, Social Comparison Bias, Hard-Easy Effect, and the Magic Number 7±2 to strengthen engagement, memory retention, and emotional investment in the learning process.

Challenge :
The project required balancing historical accuracy with entertaining gameplay mechanics. Integrating educational content without overwhelming players, while simultaneously embedding cognitive psychology principles into the experience, demanded extensive research and iterative game development.
Summary :
Swarajya transforms historical learning into an immersive and interactive experience. By combining strategy, competition, and cognitive design principles, the game encourages players to engage deeply with Maharashtrian history while fostering curiosity and retention.
