Problem :

The project challenged students to reinterpret an existing product by applying the design language of a premium automotive brand. The objective was to redesign a standard electric hand drill while preserving its functionality and ergonomics, yet making it visually resonate with Aston Martin’s values of elegance, performance, and precision.

Solution :

Through extensive study of Aston Martin’s visual identity, including proportions, flowing surfaces, grille treatments, and signature lighting elements, a new styling direction was developed for the hand drill. Multiple sketch explorations were conducted before arriving at a final concept that combined ergonomic functionality with a dynamic and sophisticated visual character.

Challenge :

Translating automotive design cues into a compact handheld tool was the primary challenge. The form needed to remain practical and manufacturable while reflecting the premium aesthetics and emotional appeal associated with Aston Martin. Achieving harmony between functionality and styling required several iterations and refinements.

Summary :

The final concept demonstrates how a strong brand language can be successfully translated across product categories. By blending performance-inspired styling with ergonomic considerations, the project reimagines a common power tool through a luxury automotive lens.
