Role Rangers
A play-based intervention to reduce gender stereotypes among children aged 8–10 through collaborative role-neutral problem solving.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Toy Design
Project Type :
Board Game Design
Project Duration :
6 weeks

Problem :
Gender stereotypes and social biases often begin forming at a young age through everyday observations and interactions. Traditional classroom discussions on inclusivity can feel instructional and fail to engage children meaningfully. The challenge was to create an interactive medium that could encourage children to question stereotypes and practice inclusive behavior in a natural and engaging way.

Solution :
Role Rangers was designed as a collaborative board game where children navigate familiar environments such as homes, schools, playgrounds, hospitals, and markets. Through scenario-based quests, role cards, and team discussions, players work together to solve problems while earning tokens that visually build their Ripple Map. The game encourages teamwork, empathy, fairness, and equal participation without explicitly teaching moral lessons.

Challenge :
The biggest challenge was designing a learning experience that felt like play rather than education. Balancing fun, engagement, and behavioral learning required careful development of scenarios, reward systems, and role mechanics. Ensuring that concepts like inclusivity and stereotype-breaking emerged organically through gameplay was a key design consideration.
Summary :
Role Rangers transforms everyday situations into opportunities for collaborative problem-solving and reflection. By rewarding teamwork, creativity, and fairness, the game helps children develop inclusive mindsets while enjoying a playful and engaging experience.
